Soledad Velez - Wild Fishing

Label: Absolute Beginners Records
Format: CD
Confusing and ultimately incomprehensible debut album from Chilean singer-songwriter, Soledad Velez

Review

Soledad Velez, who is a Chilean singer-songwriter, has made a severe mistake in not chanting in Spanish. Her lyrics are simply incomprehensible. Despite a few nice touches from her backing band, she nonetheless made me feel I was the uninvited guest to Jean Duran's magnificent non-performance in the Olympic episode of 'Absolutely Fabulous'. On the other hand, this could be a joke. If so, it is a mildly good one, although nothing to wake up the neighbours for though. Lyrics in unwitnessed gibberish and un-folky pop music make a very odd mixture indeed, and, alas, are bereft of original composition in any way. This album is a curious waste of time..
