Stunning limited edition vinyl single from former Hefner frontman Darren Hayman, upon which he collaborates with both Elizabeth Morris from Allo' Darlin' and the Wave Pictures
Review
Back in January former Hefner man, Darren Hayman wrote a song everyday and collaborated with like-minded musical scamps to make the process more eclectic.
Two of those collaborations are included on this limited 7”.
'I Know I Fucked Up' is a simple sad song lifted to great heights by the wonderful vocal talents of Elizabeth Morris (moonlighting from her excellent, if poorly titled band, ‘Allo Darlin’). She wraps her beautiful, world weary - way beyond her tender years - voice around Hayman’s heartfelt lyrics about a failed relationship to give the song genuine lump in the throat feeling.
In a word it’s stunning. ‘Allo Darlin’ have a second LP out sometime soon, featuring a similar song in the shape of 'Talulah'. It is certainly worth the wait.
'Who Hung The Monkey' is an upbeat ode to a road trip, with Hayman at the vocal helm and the underrated the Wave Pictures providing first rate backing. It’s very Hefner and hence pretty good, but not it the same league as the flip.
Snap this up before it sells out.
