Review
This EP features four completely different versions and mixes of the title track from former Black Box Recorder front woman Sarah Nixey's second solo album.
The first version is the album edit, This has softly strummed guitar played by Sarah, and is backed by some sweet cello, Sarah's vocal cuts through the air, telling this haunting tale of a murder. As it moves along, lush strings and a full band help it onto its forward journey, and flesh out the rather dark subject material.
The other mixes are very different,
On 'Meet Kids Love', the second remix, the song remains intact. The beats that back it up are dancey, but do not harm the track and give it a different breathing space. It is dubby but not that heavy, and well done.
The third remix, 'Meets Dadaback Beats and Love Redub', is much harsher in its beats. It recalls Bjork at the time of her 'Homogenic album. The beats take the track completely over, and it is good for clubbers and dance heads.
The last mix, 'Meets Freelance Hellraiser', is a complete surprise. It is lovely easy listening, very mid 1970s, even disco-ish, sounding like when music was safe before punk came along. This mix would have Sarah very radio friendly indeed at one time.
