Competent, yet directionless eponymous debut album from Scottish sextet, Das Contras
Review
Outlandish yet Scottish, Das Contras play a blend of smooth soul and slightly exciting jazz, ska and rock. The production won't please the critical ear while the crummy sound is of little help to the obligatory music.
Their album sounds dangerously clinical even when their competence is obvious. Das Contras are the kind of band that should play wedding parties for wacky couples.
They lack a direction of their own. The Bees from the Isle of Wight were so much better at this blend of music. Their debut still remains a pleasant listen though, yet very far from exceptional.
