In 'Ice Cream Van' Spencer Robertshaw writes of childhood innocence and parenthood
Article
The bright yellow orb sits above
Freckles and bubbles from the young
Fields and trees give way to trespassers
The dry grass sticking to our clothes
Ice cream vans are back in fashion
Children eat quickly before it melts
Tears as a cornet surrenders its load
A pang of helplessness makes you buy one more
The out of tune chorus of children’s laughter
Perfect to a parents ear
We don’t want them to grow up
And face life full on
The most precious gift of innocence
Time tries to take it slowly away
The freckles and bubbles could pop and fade
As the wheel turns full circle
Seize the day or whatever
Give tools to stop the clock
Ice cream vans are back in fashion
Children eat quickly before it melts
