Brights - A Cameo Can't Last Forever

Label: Lemon Pop
Format: CDS
Fine second single from London-based band the Brights, who merge together Paul Weller and Orange Juice influences

Review

There is no doubt that Paul Weller is still a God, at least in the UK. But as there are many sides to his music during the years, different bands are influenced by different phases of the Weller catalogue. In the late 20th century, and early 21st century, bands like Ocean Colour Scene took Paul’s groovy, souly side and made it their own, and, even though they managed to release a couple of decent singles, I never really understood why everyone was raving about them. The Brights, a London four-piece, really like Paul Weller too. But unlike many others, they have focused on his more positive sides, and mixed with some Orange Juice and some Gene, you get a pretty good single. It will be nice to hear the album, which is coming out soon, and see if this was a lucky strike, or if they can manage to make a pretty good album too.
