I Love UFO - Dirty Animals

Label: Asphalt Duchess
Format: CD
Theatrical and off-kilter space rock on debut album from French rockers, I Love UFO

Review

How do you want your beef, rare or medium rare? The producer of 'Dirty Animals' had decided already and I would have liked this a little bloodier. Still. Butch, loud and snotty, is how these French dope rockers I Love UFO plough through the songs. Guitars wade through the mud of their sound as vocalist Butch McKoy leads his troops into battle. This is a peculiar mixture sometimes with bits of goth, acid rock and streamlined, melodic rock all thrown together such as on 'Clear Darkness'. I Love UFO are not shy of a good deal of pathos and theatre, yet it never gets out of control. They are capable of writing decent tracks, I would much rather hear I Love UFO cover the works of Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht. At least we would know what they're on about. The rhythm section would be perfect for such odd twists. 'Trouble' is the sole straight track. If you like your space rock rather odd, then do check this out.
