Lee Perry, Dennis Bovell & The On-U Soundsystem Vs Pempi - Ironman

Label: On-U Sound
Format: 12"
Fabulous dubstep on new twelve inch vinyl only single from the now septuagenerian Lee Perry, which find him collaborating with Dennis Bovell and Leicester-based newcomer Mike Hadland

Review

The Genius lives on. With the aid of The On-U Posse including Britain's own dub master Dennis Bovell, Lee Perry has recently resurfaced on a string of dubstep twelve inches taking on such illuminaries as Kode9, Moody Boyz, Horsepower and on this latest in the batch, Studio Rockers's newcomer from Leicester Mike Hadland, a.k.a. Pempi. Based on an over the top vocal, 'Ironman' gets busy and bubbling after some initital hesitation but, well into his seventies, Lee Perry is without a doubt an ironman. Roast fish, cornbread and collie weed do the trick. The 'Ironman' gets really sweaty on the Tetsuo dub on the flip. The warped and operates-que sample now becomes the chorus of a streamlined stepper with ripping and tearing breezeblock effects. Fabulous fun, no matter whether you're singing in the shower or on the dancefloor.
