Reflective new single from promising Rome-born, but now London-based singer-songwriter and musician, Odette
Review
"My friend, why are you leaving when you’re so sad?/I have all the time in the world for you," sings this London-based singer-songwriter who has spent time in New York, but was born in Rome. Her original song ‘My Friend’ is a single from her debut ‘Just Me’ released early January in 2010.
’Just Listen’ and ‘Ride Your Bike’ were also recently released and are part of the same collection. Odette’s voice is warm and touching and the simple instrumentation provides a bright palette for her sonar delivery.
The song has a timelessness and reflective quality as well. Odette penned this well-wishing ode of a ballad to celebrate the true remarkability of friendship. It’s an indie-pop sound that evokes the 90s but hints at the new millennium.
The lyric "My friend, you make me happy/and if you cry I’ll cry a little with you…" sensitively seals up the softness of the theme. Odette’s artistic background includes writing poetry at nine and songs at fourteen. Her songs have been published by Warner Chappel in Italy.
I’d now like to hear what other themes Odette can drum up. She’s a talented writer and vocalist and obviously a kind and thoughtful friend. But, I’m anxious to find out if alternate colours can be derived from such primary emotions.
