A Place To Bury Strangers - Keep Slipping Away

Label: Mute Records
Format: CDS
Fabulous second single from A Place to Bury Srangers' second album, 'Exploding Head'

Review

'Keep Slipping Away' is the second single from New York psychedelic/shoegazing trio A Place to Bury Strangers' second album, 'Exploding Head'. It closes the first side of the vinyl edition of the album and is available in single form both on 7" vinyl and as a download. The single version is a radio edit, loud from the start and reminiscent of the Cure during their 'Faith' and 'Pornography' era, but has an added jangle. 'Hit the Ground' is a new song and is guitar heavy, with fabulously meaty bass and drum groove and vocals from Oliver Ackermann which are the best this side of the Jesus and Mary Chain. Exclusive to the download edition are threee remixes of 'Keep Slipping Away'. It starts off with South Central's version of 'Keep Slipping Away', which starts off with some lovely acoustic guitar and a crystal clear distortion-free vocal from Oliver, until a drum machine beat kicks in which takes it into dance-flavoured territory. Cereal Spiller's remix is slower with a drum and bass-paced beat and is very dance-flavoured indeed. The Maps remix is much darker and faster in pace, and, more electronic-based, has distortion on its vocals. It keeps the spirit of the original, but also adds so much more. It ends with a Richard Fearless remix, which is a fast remix that as much like the Cure as it does A Place to Bury Strangers.
