First-rate third single from 80s- influenced Manchester-based indie guitar band, the Shallow Call
Review
Over the last couple of years there has been a real resurgence in guitar bands with a nod to the classic jingle jangle sound of the mid 80’s favoured by the likes of the Chesterf!elds, the June Brides and the Bodines.
Most prominently were the Courteeners, but more recently the likes of the Heartbreaks and the Shallow Call have started to make themselves known.
'I Wanted You More Than You Wanted Me' is the third single from the Shallow Call and follows on from previous releases 'Where We All Hang Around' and debut 'Frank Bruno', and it shows a continued flair for writing catchy songs. A cross between the lyrical observations of the underrated Little Man Tate and musical meanderings of the Bluetones’ early output.
B-side, 'Ask Me', is similar fair and bodes well for a long overdue album.
A great pop single and hopefully one that will break the band to a wider audience. Keep a keen eye on this band.
