Likeable booze-soaked rock 'n' roll from explosive Memphis-based band, John Paul Keith and the One Four Fives
Review
Recorded at the Ardent Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, the 'Spills And Thrills' album consists of pure and only pub material. Stonking rhythm and blues, which is traditional yet entertaining, sets the tone. Add archetypical country and western fiddle plus steel guitar and the middle American feel to 'Spills And Thrills' becomes perfectly clear. John Paul Keith and The One Four Fives know the tricks of their trade by heart. One moment you expect Elvis to arise from the ashes, the next muddy Mississippi mayhem marks the momentum.
The One Four Fives know their stuff and perform groovy rock'n' roll like the Fleshtones performed twenty five years ago. The witty doo-wop in 'Rock'n Roll Will Break Your Heart' stresses a wider range though in the One Four Fives'formula before 'Spills And Thrills' then concludes with even more Americana.
Given JP Keith's role in, and rule over, area One Four Five this has turned out to be my favourite June sound to a pub crawl.
