Koni Michi and the Stone Ghost Collective - The Grey Eulogy EP

Label: Shark Batter Records
Format: CDS
Unsatisfying new EP from usually excellent New York based experimentalist Kono Michi who has paired up with Scottish duo the Stone Ghost Collective to middle-of-the-road effect

Review

Dragging in the Stone Ghost Collective has proved a major error for Kono Michi. This pairing has resulted in a mediocre Punch and Judy performance. Do not expect any of Kono Michi's exquisite playing. Instead you get rather predictable middle-of-the-road noises. In what is a complete mystery to me, Shark Batter Records all of a sudden have turned to Tesco Background Muzak. This EP still sounds better than most of what you'll hear on regular license fee radio but I was expecting much, much more. The last track actually made me laugh out loudly. File under Alan Partridge radio fillers.

Track Listing:-

1 The Look Of Love
2 War Correspondence
3 Grey Eulogy
4 Baby It's Cold Outside

Erm, no proofreader, let alone spellchecking software. A Penguin All English Dictionary you will find next to my computer monitor. Amazingly enough, gray is accepted ("gray see grey" p.327) ! But I never wrote gray. That mention of a 2005 release must be a database hiccup. There is a genuine spelling mistake in the database though: Koni Michi and the Stone Ghost Collective: The Grey Eulogy EP - CDS 26/11/2008 This you can check yourself by clicking a dozen times from my page http://www.pennyblackmusic.co.uk/MagSitePages/AuthorPage.aspx?id=23 until you've reached the letter K. Granted, we do make mistakes! I do not read The Guardian however. I stick to reading NRC-Handelsblad, Volkskrant en De Gelderlander, thank you. Met vriendelijke groet, Maarten

Dragging in Guardian proofreaders has proved a major error for Maarten Schiethart. This pairing has resulted in a mediocre Spellchecking performance. Do not expect any of Maarten's usually quite exquisitely spelled writing. Instead we get rather predictable misspelling. In what is a complete mystery to me, PennyBlackMusic.co.uk all of a sudden have turned to spelling the common colour denominator "grey" as "gray". This works well when discussing the surnames of Scottish novelists but could become irksome or confusing in discussion of hues, tones and colours. The spelling and proofreading in this review is still better than most of what you'll see on regular zines or fan run websites but I was expecting much, much more. The 2005 Release Date actually made me laugh out loudly. File your fingernails to sharp points and use them to pick your teeth after all meals. rS :-)
