Epic combination of fuzzed-out guitars and droney electronica on offbeat debut album from the Devo-influenced XX Teens
Review
Forget Goa, this is what we call a beach party. Oceans of fuzzed-out guitar, and droney electronica you can lose yourself in for days. Juddering breakbeats that’ll have you jiggling like Beyonce on a mach 10 Powerplate. Backbone-splintering bass. And even steel drums.
Your hosts, XX Teens, dress like middle managers, go on about politics a lot and spit out lyrics like "she’s got five legs, six legs and a croissant" in the style of Devo – all of which will give their art pseud fan contingent the chance of their lives to take recreational drugs and bore each other to death about Luis Bunuel.
But think of the benefits. Namely, you won’t see any lagered-up, lobster-red, budget airline pleasure-seekers for dust. Welcome, indeed, to Goon Island.
