Pram - Prisoner of the 7 Pines

Label: Domino Records
Format: 12"
Somewhat dull and unnecessary collection of remixes from Birmingham-based elecronic group, Pram

Review

The Birmingham cocktail-folkies Pram lift 'Beluga' off last year's wonderful 'The Moving Frontier' album and add four starkly different versions of another three album tracks. In contrast, it lacks the album's coherence, and to begin with, the Psapp remix is rather dull. Aguirre Wrath of Godsy uses Morricone tricks and makes 'The Silk Road' a rather risky route but Grandmaster Gareth's workover of 'Beluga' is the version to go for. Not just funny and wacky, Grandmaster Gareth's mix is funky too, oddly enough 'funky' can be the acronym of funny and wacky. The mistake made by the Throwing Toys Into The Pram remix on the closing track 'Salva' should never be repeated; don't drown the precious vocals in a downbeat electronic jazzy mess please. Pram already sounded like this over 10 years ago, no need for a 'reprise'

Track Listing:-

1 Beluga (Album Version)
2 Metaluna (Psapp Vital Sand Pit Remix)
3 The Silk Road (Aguirre Wrath Of Godsy Remix)
4 Beluga (Grandmaster Gareth Remix)
5 Salva (Throwing Toys Into The Pram)
