Vector Lovers - Ping Pong

Label: Soma Records
Format: 12"
Epic and exquisite-sounding clash of styles on latest EP from techno act, the Vector Lovers

Review

Très euro, this latest Vector Lovers EP. 'Ping Pong' has nothing to do with the Stereolab track of some fame, or with China's most popular sport - I'm typing this hours before the opening of the Olympic games in Beijing. 'Ping Pong' is a surprisingly straightforward Italo vs Münich clash of styles. Euphoric, yet not exquisite in spite of its immediate appeal. Next, 'Pin Tweaks' isn't just a cryptic play, on David Lynch's eerie TV-series, that you wished you would have thought out yourself. In fact the track lives up to a particular sense of clichéd voodoo culture. The beats skid at the beginning, only to build a mysterious rhythm which is pointy and lateral at the same time. The closing track 'Reminisce' is a fluent ride upon which clickhouse, club music and this epic quality meet. Very much an after party release; the recommended moment of the day to listen to this would be dawn.

Track Listing:-

1 Ping-Pong
2 Pin Tweaks
3 Reminisce

Afterglow (2007)
Surprising new album from minimalistic house act Vector Lovers which takes a lot of its inspiration from traditional styles aand would not be out of place on a Radio 2 or 6Music playlist
