Tantalising second single from Oxfordshire-based piano/guitar band A Silent Film's long awaited debut album, 'The City That Sleeps'
Review
A Silent Film’s debut album, ‘The City That Sleeps’, seems to have been a long time coming.
The Oxfordshire-based piano/guitar band’s anthemic debut single, ‘Sleeping Pills’, which followed on from an EP, ‘The Projectionist’ which came out last summer, however, promised much when it was released back in April and their second single, ‘You Will Leave A Mark’, is similarly tantalising. Like its predecessor, it has been released as a one track only download.
An ode to white middle class guilt and paranoia (“I have no religion/ I have no reason to be scared/I am going to hell and I just don’t care”), it is a breezy pop number of thunderous beats and huge washes of piano, which punches hard both in its catchiness and in its sudden, surprise ending.
The much delayed album is due finally for release in October, and on the brief evidence of this it will have been very much worth the lengthy wait.
