Harmonic and mesmerising indiepop on debut single from Lancashire-based trioSay, which comes in both a vinyl and a CDS version
Review
To some, the Pendle District in Lancashire may be the least likely place for a trio to come from that pays tribute to the music of the Beach Boys and Britain's XTC and 10CC. Yet Say are just that. Now, I'm not entirely sure whether Pendle is a lovely place, but Pendle's trio Say definitely sound lovely.
Brother Jay, sister Maria Stansfield and Rob Ashworth formed Say and their shared love of 1970's pop music is ever so evident on their debut for Hamburg's premier label, Aufgeladen und Bereit.
The extra track on the CD single, 'Fields', is the one to go for. Whereas the first two tracks, the ones on the green coloured vinyl single release, offer dynamite Radio 2 or Radio 6 inclusions, Say's 'Fields' catches this little trio at their best with doses of harmony vocals, harpsichord-like keyboards and a mesmerising melody line to get you drifting along ... fields.
