Powerful second album from Toulouse-based electro artist Ensemble, which features collaborations with both Lou Barlow and Cat Power
Review
Ensemble, otherwise known as Toulouse-born Olivier Alary, is well known for having remixed tracks for Bjork, as well as co-writing the song ‘Desired Constellation’ for her last album, 'Medulla'. Now he has released his self-titled, second album on Fat Cat records. The record is a collection of 7 fantastic laid-back electo-songs, which fans of Bjork’s work should find very appealing.
Featuring collaborations with a selection of great artists, including Lou Barlow and Chan Marshall (aka Cat Power), whose songs, ‘One Kind Two Minds’ and ‘Disown, Delete’ respectively, are particular high points of the record, along with the fantastic 9 and a half minute ‘Loose’, featuring vocalist Camille Claverie. Others featured on the album are electronic composer Mileece, on the tracks ‘Summerstorm’ and ‘All We Leave Behind’, and Mum’s Adam Pierce who plays drums throughout.
It’s always great to hear artists you love collaborating with others to do something a bit different, and Ensemble doesn’t fail to disappoint. Even without the guest stars, the album would have strong enough tracks to work almost, if not just as well. This is an excellent record.
