In the latest in our new photographic series, Anna Gudaniec photographs New York /Ukranian gypsy punks Gogol Bordello at a recent show at the Astoria in London
Article
Gogol Bordello have set a reputation for being one of the most frenetic live bands in the world.
Formed by their charismatic lead singer the Ukranian-born Eugene Hutz with several other Eastern European immigrants in New York City in 1996 , the self-confessed gypsy punks merge accordion and fiddle with guitar and drums, and combine cabaret and hardcore punk energy.
Their music has been described as a "weird blend of the Dead Kennedys, Flogging Molly and the Decemberists."
Flamboyant and colourful, Gogol Bordello are currently in midst of a worldwide tour. These photographs were taken by Anna Gudaniec for Pennyblackmusic at the Astoria on the 10th March
