Debut indie mainstream release from much acclaimed Nottingham-based shoegazers, Amusement Parks on Fire
Review
This is the third single from Nottingham's Amusement Parks on Fire, but this is their first indie mainstream release.
The title track, 'Blackout', recalls many of the early 4AD records and also My Bloody Valentine, but has more audioble vocals than both from singer Michael Feerick.
'Solera La Reina' sounds very classy and is well orchestrated. Feerick's vocal when it joins the track is assisted by a slow and soft acoustic guitar and is sung in a trippy Pink Floyd way. The whole song is gorgeous. Its loud outro is very long and somewhat spooky, and runs into the next track, 'Motown Ritual', which is very thrashy and fast and has echoes of early Creation Records bands.
The last track, 'Back to Flash, is pure shoegazing heaven and again very loud but with a harmony-based vocal.
