Datarock - Datarock Datarock

Label: Yap
Format: CD
Clever mixture of synthpop and funk on debut album from Acid Jazz-inspired Norwegian act Datarock

Review

Datarock are one of several very good new bands from Norway to be featured on the 'DJ Kicks' compilation by Norwegian pop darling Annie. When I heard their track 'Fa Fa Fa' I was reminded of Acid Jazz bands such as Corduroy and more than keen to get hold of their debut album. 'Datarock Datarock' now turns out to be a very clever mixture between synthpop such as Devo and funk similar to French band Phoenix. Funnily enough, the fact that their approach to funk sometimes is a bit stiff only makes them sound more unique. In addition to that, 'Datatrock Datarock' has no fillers and can be enjoyed in its entire glory. Very exciting stuff indeed.
