Solid middle-of-the-road classic country rock on 18th album from Bonnie Raitt
Review
This is the eighteenth album from Bonnie Raitt, and on it there are no original songs at all. It is not one for the indie crowd, but is nevertheless a good solid album of mature middle-of-the-road classic country rock.
It start off with 'I Will Not Be Broken' which is laid back and twangy. 'God in the Water' has a cool, elegant vocal and combines a 70's funky beat with a groove that is reminiscent of the Beatles' 'Come Together'.
'Love on One Condition' has its base in the 70's and is a pure country saloon bar blues number. 'So Close' is charming and
relaxed, while 'Trinkets' is a narrative tale with a big sound.
'Crooked Crown' is experimental, but nevertheless remains good solid song writing for the middle aged crowd who like middle-of-the-road music while 'Unnecessarily Mercenary' is again good old fashioned bar room blues.
'I Don't Want Anything to Change' is mellow and laid back country, while 'Deep Water' is wider in sound, but still fits into the easy listening camp. 'Two Lights in the Nighttime' is 70's country rock, while album closer 'The Bed I Made' is very slow and one for lovers, a romantic ballad and seduction number.
