Split 7" single on the Bearos label from the Workhouse and Inch Blue, both of whom are joined together by a love of great groups from the past
Review
A split single from two brilliant bands joined together by a love of great groups from the past.
The Workhouse's side just shimmers brilliance from the outset, not that I have come to expect any less from them. Starting off in a haunting manner, that is both slow and intriguing at the same time, the vocal just lies in the air waiting to be caught. 'Aberdeen initially reminds me of the Kitchens of Distinction and Stephen
Hero. When the guitars finally kick in, the Workhouse, however, have a similar charm to the Chameleons.
Inch Blue are fronted by Stuart Kemsley, who looks like Ian Astbury from the Cult and the Doors of the 21st Century, but who sounds sounds somewhere between Joy Division's Ian Curtis and the Mission's Wayne Hussey, which isn't a bad place to be really. Inch Blue particulary shine live, but the musicianship on 'I'm A Dead Leaf Waiting to Fall' is also very fine.Imagine a great tribute band to all the really cool indie bands of the 80's, such as the Chameleons, the Bunnymen and the House of Love, and that's what you have in Inch Blue.
Each of the two sides of this single are excellent. Both these bands deserve your support.
