Athlete - Athlete Ep

Label: Regal
Format: CDS
Impressive pop folk debut for new act signed to the well regarded Regal recordings label

Review

New to the wonderful world of Regal Recordings is Athlete. As in Athlete's feet, the band wears several layers of skin, peeled off to reach the bone of the three 70's pop folk songs on their 'Athlete EP'. 'Westside', the opening track, compares strongly to Steely Dan because of its powerful breaks, cynical commentary on the rock scene and particulary in the duo's singing. It wins you over with its sudden turns in instrumentation, while maintainining the firm path of a winning Athlete. Best described as golden, the prize is that of a band taking on Badly Drwan Boy and beating Turin Brakes for a start. Not bad for a start !

Track Listing:-

1 Westside
2 Dungeness
3 One Of Those Days
