"Dull" new EP from former Throwing Muses and Belly star
Review
Hmm, Tanya Donelly. Despite being the lesser talent of the now legendary Throwing Muses, she always seemed the one most likely too (as opposed to her half sister Kristin Hersch)and for a while there as "Belly" it worked. Her debut was a big seller with a handful of successful singles ('Feed the Tree', 'Gepeto' etc..) but after the busted flush that was the 'King' album she dropped the Belly moniker and is now solo.
And so to the 'Sleepwalk' EP. I'm struggling to enjoy this release. It's just too dull. I've given it a few spins and so far it's not even falling into the "grower" catergory. I just don't know who would buy this. Compared to Catpower it falls short in the Female angst department( 'The Storm') and in terms of Countryfied pop ('Days of Grace'/ 'After your Party')it's some way behind recent Evan Dando,Laura Cantrell or even Shelby Lynne releases ...What's going on???!!!!
Maybe die hards would like this. It certainly isn't awful and I've not really followed her since the first couple of EP's so perhaps I'm not best placed to judge but compared too... say.. 'Dusted' this is weak. Nice sleeve art though....
