Nige Nudds provides a summary of this year’s Folk in a Field festival, which takes place annually in Norfolk. Folk in a Field is an annual four-day family-friendly music festival held in a woodland clearing near West Acre, Norfolk. Featuring a diverse range of folk and roots music from around the world, the event offers a relaxed atmosphere: free camping, parking, and child admission, multiple stages, workshops, food outlets, and locally sourced beverages.. ● Festival setting and amenities: The festival takes place in Bradmoor Woods and provides free camping, parking, and free entry for children under twelve. It is dog-friendly and includes multiple stages such as the Main Stage, Pallet Stage, Boat Stage, and The Long Boat, alongside workshops, stalls, and open mic sessions. Food and drink options include real ales, ciders, and several food outlets. ● Musical performances and genres: Daytime music is mostly mellow, shifting to more energetic sets at night. Notable acts include The Redhills with indie folk sounds, Baskery’s rendition of Neil Young’s ‘Down by The River (with epic shredding from the banjo!),’ The Superphone’s Mancunian indie folk, and Macura’s "Heavy Flamenco" from Spain. The festival also features folk rock bands like Gaz Brookfield, Mad Dog McRea, 3 Daft Monkeys, and Man the Lifeboats. ● Additional acts and atmosphere: Quieter folk acts such as Anto Morra’s punk-folk, the Wilswood Buoys, and sea-shanty favourites Sirens at the Helm performed on the Pallet Stage. Dr Bluegrass and the Illbilly 8 provided lively entertainment, and Steve Knightly of Show of Hands delivered a solo set with diverse instrumentation. The festival is praised for its enjoyable atmosphere and reasonable prices compared to larger commercial festivals. . ● There were many more acts that made the weekend. I would definitely recommend this festival rather than the expansive Glastonbury’s or Latitude’s which have also been glossed over by overzealous sponsors and quite frankly bland line-ups.
