Rising star, singer-songwriter Emily Burns has released her debut album, 'Die Happy', following up on her worldwide success ‘Is It Just Me’ and several EPs. Writing songs at an early age, Burns decided in her teens to pursue her music dreams, moving to London at eighteen and working on the front desk at the iconic Abbey Road studios, her music to be inspired by the world-famous musicians recording there. ‘Die Happy’ is a colourful mix of candid, personal songs, piano and acoustic ballads, imprinted by sensitive lyrics and a strong flair for storytelling. On her choice of songs for the album Burns said: “I chose these 12 songs because they feel most authentically me, no airs and graces, just honest stories”. Songs to listen out for in the collection include: the opener and title track, about appreciating love and life in its multifacetedness; the intimate piano ballad ‘Balcony Floor’ with its atmospheric synths; ‘Cheating On Her’ with its sparse arrangement, about a love triangle and its repercussions; the slow-burning, emotionally charged ‘Second Guessing’; ‘Gone’ with its trenchant lyrics about the emotions which linger on after a relationship ends; the minimalist, plaintive ‘Stay’, Burns’s expressive vocals evoking fragility; and the upbeat closer ‘One Day At A Time’, about self-acceptance and living life in the moment. Emotive, introspective but with a contemporary vibe, ‘Die Happy’ is an intriguing precursor to Burns’s future work.
