Poignant yet gritty debut single from Futur Primitif, the new band of former Low Anthem guitarist, Daniel Lefkowitz
Review
Futur Primitif’s new single ‘Nuclear Shockwave’ starts with an easy guitar strum, evolves into a soothing sonic buzz and ultimately builds into apocalypse. The song is folk inflected and heartfelt, while somehow mirroring Velvet Underground in its soundscape.
Futur Primitif is the new project from singer, songwriter and guitarist Daniel Lefkowitz, former member of American indie-folk band the Low Anthem. He is joined by Jared Elmore on synths, electronics and drum machine. ‘Nuclear Shockwave’ is the first single taken from their upcoming new album, ‘Machineteeth’.
Lefkowitz sings the poignant lyrics with a soulful gritty vocal: “Save yourself when the light comes flickering/ A nuclear candle in the bright new sky.” The song highlights disturbing nuclear holocaust imagery: “Dust to dust and eyes to eyelids, skin to cement…” This remarkable number chronicles heading into a bomb shelter in the basement with imagery that is startling and troubling, but a sound that is nevertheless moving.
