Just Joans - Your Pain is a Joke Next to Mines

Label: Wee POP
Format: CD
Enjoyable, but indistinctive EP from Scottish-based twee pop act, the Just Joans

Review

Sometimes I feel that I’m losing touch with the twee pop scene, a scene that I have been following like a maniac for the past ten years. New bands emerge all the time, and when I listen to them, I just think that I have heard this a thousand times before. Don’t get me wrong here… most of the time the bands are quite good, but they all just sound the same, and all I want is to be surprised every now and then. Is that too much to ask for? You might have guessed what I’m aiming at here. The Just Joans’ new EP, 'Your Pain is a Koke Next to Mines' is is one of those records that I just mentioned. Filled to the brim with strong pop melodies, Scottish accents and twee-ish lyrics, it’s a good EP, but for some reason I just can’t get excited over this. I remember feeling the same way when I reviewed the Pocketbooks album last year. But I’m sure that if this would have been released five years ago, I would have loved it! So, there’s nothing wrong with you, the Just Joans. It’s me.
