Excellent debut album from 60's-influenced London-based psychedelic band, the Tamborines

Review

The Tamborines are a London-based psychedelic act who are fronted by by Henrique Laurindo on vocals and mean guitar and Lulu Grave on vocals and keyboards. They released their vinyl only debut single, 'Sally O'Gannon', on Sonic Cathedral records, but 'Camera and Tremor', the first LP, was released on their own label and recorded in their own studio. The album opens with '31st Floor' which has a lot of feedback, hard hitting drums and, with Lulu's keyboards pushed to the front, a grungy 60's feel. 'Come Together' is heavy on guitars that jangle away while Henrique and Lulu's harmonies are reminiscent of the Teenage Fanclub. 'What Took You So Long' is all fuzzed up in a Jesus and Mary Chain style. 'Naissance de la Folie' has a French style 60's vibe and would fit perfectly on a black and white film soundtrack. 'Falling Slowly' is a feedback number, angry and full of passion. The single, Sally O'Gannon', is both catchy and edgy like the Jesus and Mary Chain on a 60's trip. 'On Yr Own' is loud and energetic. Bop along to this and you happily spill your over priced pint. 'CWB' was a free download and is much lighter, but again has a solid groove. 'Let Me Down' is like the Jesus and Mary Chain at their furious best. 'Looking Glass House' is equally explosive and has a superb grungy groove. It ends with 'The Great Division', which is like a slower version of 'Sister Ray' and works very well. A great debut.
