Love Is All - A Hundred Things Keep Me Up at Night

Label: What's Your Rupture
Format: CD
Energetic post-punk on second album from Gothenburg-based group, Love Is All

Review

When I first heard Love Is All when they opened for the marvellous Aislers Set in Lund in Sweden, I didn’t like them at all. I had enjoyed some of the songs by Girlfrendo (a band that featured some of the members from Love Is All), but I couldn’t stand singer Josephine Olausson’s voice, as she screamed more than sang. So, Love Is All never made it to my record player until I once again happened to see them as an opening act, this time for another marvellous band, Architecture In Helsinki, in Gothenburg, which also happens to be Love Is All’s hometown. This time I was blown away with the band, and wondered why I hadn’t given them a second chance earlier. Maybe one of the reasons was that I had discovered the post punk scene during the years that passed between the two gigs, and as Love Is All is heavily influenced by that very scene, I could appreciate their music more this time around. Around that time, their first album ('Nine Times That Same Song') came out. It was one of the best Swedish albums in a long time, if you ask me, and an album that I still listen to frequently. Now a couple of years later the follow-up, 'A Hundred things Keep Me Up at Night', has been released (produced by Wyatt Cusick from aforementioned Aislers Set) My expectations were sky high, of course. I got a taster from the album earlier this winter when I saw the video for 'Wishing Well', and I was relieved when I heard that nothing had changed. It was still the same fantastic energy, post punk-ish riffs, and lovely melodies. When listening to the whole album, I get the feeling that it is a bit heavier than the previous one, but there’s nothing wrong with that. Welcome back, Love Is All! Heja Sverige!
