Christian McKee - Ipods and Cyclops EP
Label: Christian McKee
Format: CDS

intro

Low rent hip-hop influenced narratives of London life on debut release from singer-songwriter Christian McKee, which proves not without merits

Christian McKee may have missed the boat slightly with this release. The backlash against hip-hop influenced tales of London life appears to be gaining momentum if anything. He may find himself chased by the same posse aiming to drive Lilly Allen and her ilk out of town. The title track of this EP is not without merits though. It ambles along pleasantly with its tale of a conceited girl trawling the capital’s sleazier locals. Plus it gets definite bonus points for the line “He’s flattened his barnet but he still looks a twat"; but he’s anxious to know how I feel about that.” Why, then, McKee felt the need to mar this slice of pop with totally unnecessary overdubs of someone saying “yeah”, “for real”, and “wot, wot, wot” like a low-rent rapper is a mystery.
