So, this is what is what would happen if Daft Punk became fashionable in California and the Arctic Monkeys subsequently invaded its coast. You would be left with Faded Paper Figures. Half smart, half obvious and predictable all the way through, the 'Relics' album is little else than a cute mockery of indie disco pop music. Faded Paper Figures's plea to 'Spare Me' doesn't do the job. It is the very opposite instead. It would get on anyone's nerves.
Faded Paper Figures perform mediocre fireside tunes which lean heavily on the Anticon / Why? repertoire without adding anything substantially different. Slaves to the format, Faded Paper Figures perform the type of cartoon music style that popular American culture became synonymous with. Twelve-lane boredom of such tremendous tedium makes one long for an earthquake to shake up these dazed musical minds. ' Let California Shake'. Faded Paper Figures certainly won't.
