Fuzz are in fact the Epsilons 2.0. Once notorious for their obstinately juvenile and snappy garage punk, Roland Cosio, Charlie Moothart and Ty Segall, however, now take more time to do their twang. As Fuzz, this trio is far less distinctive, but blessed again though with a 'Mongoloid' quality. Hammering their way into merry oblivion, Fuzz somehow manage to add style to their Neanderthal ruckus.
Grungy and bluesy, Fuzz crawls through the snotty swamps of maverick psychedelic garage punk. They probably lost a few hairs in the process. Beating the drums as if it's the end of the world, Ty Segall, alas, however, doesn't succeed in singing with equal rigour and vigour. There is, however, still lots of exhilirating slide guitar mayhem. 'What's in My Head' crops up as the obvious comparison to 'You're the Doctor' - off Segall's 'Twins' album. Consider it to be the blueprint, or the basement tape recording.
Most of the tracks on 'Fuzz' seem demos for future Ty Segall garage punkpop tracks. 'Preacher' though is a blinder of a track; gliding in like a thunder before 'Raise' and 'One' finish off this mind wobbling workout. A kind of a stew that was taken off the fire prematurely, the Fuzz debut LP smells like teen spirit, and tastes like spirits.
