Milan-based singer-songwriter and musician Francesca Lago hits the right chords with this set of pompous but often lovely songs.
With words and lyrics that are very direct, the ten songs on the album recall the early days of popular new wave pop. Bouncing basslines, sing-along choruses and bellowing echoes of guitars all are dished out in style.
Of unexceptional beauty, 'Mirrors Against the Sun' comes across as a most pleasant surprise against the mainstream. Francesca Lago's vocals balance between drama and real life, while her band drags her across the fine line. The humble onset considered, it's a rather great album.
