Photoscapes : Sunny Day Real Estate/Biffy Clyro
Author: Anna Gudaniec
Published: 25/06/2010

Sunny Day Real Estate were one of the pioneering groups in the emo genre and formed in Seattle in 1992.

They released two albums, 'Diary' (1994) and 'Sunny Day Real Estate' (also known as 'LP2', 1995) on the Sub Pop label, but broke up shortly after singer and guitarist Jeremy Enigk converted to Christianity and even before the second album was released.

The group reformed in 1997 in a different line-up with Enigk and guitarist Dan Hoerner still on board. They released a further two albums, 'How It Feels to Be Something On' (Sub Pop, 2008) and 'The Rising Tide' (Time Bomb Recordings, 2000), before breaking up again in 2001.

Sunny Day Real Estate's initial line-up of Enigk, Hoerner, Nate Mendel(bass) and William Goldsmith (drums), reformed in 2009 and are currently working on a new album.

After Sunny Day Real Estate's first break-up, Nate Mendel joined the Foo Fighters. He is, other than Dave Grohl, the only original member of the current line-up of the Foo Fighters. William Goldsmith was also a member of the Foo Fighters between 1995 and 1997.

Sunny Day Real Estate made its UK debut at the HMV Forum in London on the 31st May. An indication of how highly regarded they are in the emo community, they were supported by surprise guests Biffy Clyro, who played an acoustic set.

These photographs of Sunny Day Real Estate and Biffy Clyro were taken by Anna Gudaniec at the Forum show.
