Melanie Smith photographs American industrial-folk singer EMA at a show at the Ruby Lounge in Manchester
Article
EMA, the six feet tall Amazonian-like American singer (real name Erika M. Anderson), has been described as an "Industrial-folk singer" by 'The Guardian', and is receiving rave reviews for her new album. She is currently on tour to support her new release 'The Futures Void', and stopped off in the intimate surroundings of the Ruby Lounge in Manchester on the 6th June.
Amassing a decent crowd, she proceeded to display some fine vocals and guitar playing, alongside her band. They played a variety of tempo songs, from ballads to ballsy numbers. The evening was certainly entertaining because a certain Scouse heckler had been shouting out throughout the show, and it culminated in EMA pouring a bottle of water over his head with much cheering from the audience. Maybe that'll make him think twice before talking and shouting at a gig the next time!
