Ty Segall - Cat Black

Label: Goner Records
Format: 7"
Mildly disappointing vinyl only single from usually excellent Californian singer-songwriter, Ty Segall

Review

Ty Segall's sequel single to 'Ty Rex' from 2011 is an unashamed tribute to the heyday of 1970s post-glitter rock folk-ish music of Mott The Hoople and T-Rex. While he stumbles over chords on the flip side, 'The Motivator', this single shows that not every entry to Ty Segall's overproductivity counts as a blessing. While 'Cat Black' is at one level a collector's item, it is not an absolute must have. His inimitable twang, where a guitar almost sounds like a tambourine, brings out the best again, even though it's not his finest best.
