Little Fish - Wonderful

Label: Estapindo Vivid Records
Format: CDS
Attnetion-grabbing and exuberant new single from Oxford-based band Little Fish, which tells of singer Juju's loss of voice for three years

Review

'Wonderful' is the first single from Little Fish’s second, and as yet incomplete, album. Produced by Gaz Coombes of Supergrass fame, it tells of the difficulties faced by lead singer Juju when she lost her voice for a period of three years and was told that she would never sing again. Juju’s voice has since recovered, and she sings lead on this track. The band has a sound which is difficult to place, with Juju’s Patti Smith style vocals backed by Hammond organ and heavy drums. There is a raw quality to the single which is refreshing in these days of auto-tuned blandness. The Hammond organ provides a cracking taste of retro-chic, and the energy of the performance pours from the speakers. I feel I have to give special mention to the packaging. 'Wonderful' is one of the most attractively packaged CD singles I have ever seen – good work, ValeskaHykel! I enjoyed 'Wonderful'. I wasn’t completely blown away by it, but it grabbed my attention with its sheer exuberance and held onto it for four minutes. Was it, as they say, wonderful? No, I wouldn’t say so. It was pretty good, though.
