Debut single from Clash and Billy Bragg-inspired new London punk band, the Ordinary Boys
Review
The Ordinary Boys have been playing sold out gigs in London since November. This is theiir first release.
‘Maybe Someday’ is not the Cure song from ‘Blood Flowers’, but is a thrashy piece of ‘77 era punk rock in the style of the Clash. The vocals are very Billy Bragg in their tone , and the politics sound like it too.
‘Laughing from the Sidelines’, the B side of the CDS version, starts off acoustic-based, but is quite jangly, more like Billy than Joe Strummer and the boys. You can dance around to the room to this, where as ‘Maybe Someday’ is more of a gig rocker.
‘In Awe of the Awful’, the B-side of the 7” version, is again punky, but without the thrash. It has some strong guitar work which bumps along in a sort of American new wave punk style and also throws in some psychedelic organ.
These boys may end up being a lot more than just ordinary ! This is promising stuff !
