intro
Much anticipated fourth album from critically acclaimed folk pop artist Nancy Elizabeth, which fulfills every expectation
Uncrowned Nancy Elizabeth takes to the throne. Her new album 'Dancing' follows 'Wrought Iron' from three years ago and fulfills every expectation. It's now gone official: Nancy Elizabeth is Britain's Greatest Hope. Voice. Solo musician. As one of 2013's most anticipated albums, 'Dancing' masters home composition as well as it perfects orchestral kitchen table waltzes. As if Nancy Elizabeth could craft melody, rhyme and rhythm, by simply pushing her pottery pedal, she creates a one woman home chamber orchestra to accompany her very own and absolutely pure and clean vocals. Her high octaves are most unlikely to be matched. The narrative quality in folk music often gets ignored, as the audience 'at large' seems to expect message-driven tales. Not with Nancy Elizabeth though; down-to-earth, the words shape the foundations of her elevated sense of melody and music. Depicting a wave splashing onto a dolphin, the sleeve might give the impression that 'Dancing' is frivolous. Prepare for some mind boggling post-folk pop music though. 'Debt' functions as the turning point on this album, and, as the mood turns sour, Nancy Elizabeth's vocals almost become yodels. Her phrasing comes close to pure vocal chord athletics. The blues, felt as heartache worries, are chirpy and chatty here, but remain equally evocative and eloquent. Not quite the absurd combination of jolly jigs and sad waltzes she might yet go on the record, this contemplation of shy hip moves definitely is one of this year's highlights.
