Excellent third album from shoegazing remixer Ulrich Schnauss, who shows he has an equal undestanding of the art of making music

Ulrich Schnauss was born in 1977 in Kiel, North Germany. He has remixed a number of early shoegazing releases but on this he shows he understands the art of making music as well as just remixing it. It opens with ‘Never Be the Same’, which is trippy in the same way that ‘Just For a Day’, the first Slowdive album was, and has a female vocal that is very similar to that of Rachel Goswell or Miki Berenyi from Lush. ‘Shine’ has a wide, expansive sound and an echoing vocal from Ulrich. The chorus again recalls Slowdive as it features soaring vocals from Ulrich and a female singer. ‘Stars’ has a harder, trance-like groove and elements of My Bloody Valentine and the early 90’s Cure. ‘Einfield’ is much more laid back, recalling Mojave 3, but using electronica instead of acoustic guitars. ‘In Between the Years’ is instrumental and is like a film score. ‘Here Today, Gone Tomorrow’, ‘A Song about Hope’ and ‘Medusa’ are louder and recollect Lush again and Creation era My Bloody Valentine. ‘Goodbye’, the title track, is lighter and poppy like a soft Slowdive, while ‘For Good’, which ends the album, features acoustic instruments which eventually turn electric. This is my favourite album for sometime now.
