intro
Attractive compilation CD from the Land of Nod, which as well as collecting together tracks from all four of the post rock duo's albums, also features two previously unreleased tracks
'Reality Channel' is a United States only release that collects tracks from all of the Land of the Nod's four albums on Ochre records and which also includes three tracks from a Serbian radio session. The CD is wrapped in a sleeve which has an under developed photograph on it of fennel, asparagus and leaves. The listener would not expect just from looking at the photographs on the cove to hear what actually is on the disc. To me it is very finely crafted melodic post rock of the finest order, and is very relaxing in a chilled out way, but without sounding like pensioner heart FM. I find this two piece's music to be both uplifting and dark at the same time. Dave Battersby's bass guitar is sharp while Ant Walker's guitar shimmers across the top. If you need a place to start with the Nod, this is as good a place to start as any. Two extra unreleased tracks which appear at the end of the album show a new side to the band. 'Cadence' sounds like the Cure circa 'Pornography' or 'Faith'. The last track 'Mooger Superior' , which is moog based , sounds like a trance based dance track, and both of these break new ground for the Land of Nod.
