This is another debut single from a new band out of Sacramento. Apparently this is a limited pressing of 300 copies only, which comes with a free Bright Ideas badge! Oddly, all three tracks are crammed onto one side with the second side blank, which you don’t see very often. Like The Dawnbreakers single (See above !) it is not affected by a low budget production too much. In fact it seems to work in its favour. With that classic garage band drum sound it makes it seem as if it was meant to sound this way and gives it a certain charm. ‘New Years Day’ and ‘Please Say Yes’ are the two main cuts which remind me of The TV Personalities in places. In fact the whole package for me brings back memories of when I first bought the ‘Part Time Punks’ 45. ’20 Questions’ completes proceedings and though it sounds little more than a rough demo, a good song is aching to get out. The band would probably say that they could have produced a far better single if given more resources but I’m not with that argument. You’ve only got to look at what happened to The Prisoners when they got a huge budget from Stiff- it finished them. I like the rawness of this and again a lot of potential is evident. Recommended but you’ll have to move quickly if you want one.
