intro
Slow and wild garage punk on five-track EP from Parisian trio Electric Retro Spectrum
Recorded in a Parisian suburba kitchen over the course of five days by Electric Retro Spectrum's drummer Pierre Dessauny, the momentum on the 'Sub-Urban' EP was never lost. I would label this trio as third generation punk freaks. The three members of Electric Retro Spectrum clearly enjoyed a happy childhood. They have learnt twang. They have learnt fuzz, psychedelica, sonic reverb and probably live in cellar club punk grime poverty. The heartfelt 'Frontline' kicks off the EP upon which a guitar battle soon breaks out. Electric Retro Spectrum are fierce and fiery from the start. 'To Make You Mine', which comes next, recollects with its guitar licks the Seeds, while '(Can't Seem) To Make You Mine' is a genuine classic. On 'Seasons' grunge combines in a lower gear with an odd flavour of desert twang. 'New World Order' follows next with lovely and melodic tingling, initially recalling Motorama yet after a mere thirty seconds, trashing any subtlety expected, before reaching its evocative end. The grand finale 'Plane' provides pretty much a spooky experience, throwing in bits of slow core and post rock in a late 1970's New York City style. Allow me to drop the line. After Metal Urbain, time for Sub-Urban.
