intro
Timeless electronica on third album from krautrock-influenced German duo, Camera
The mindset here is perhaps intellectual and also minimal in tone though close to magnificent - Camera's krautrock dribblings gain monumentum through a bass which sounds more like Peter Hook's, rather than the heavyweight bass familiar in krautrock. 'Phantom of Liberty' requires quite a new mindset. To an extent it's cliché krautrock, yet it somehow bridges the gap between the oxygen muzak of Jean-Michel Jarre but more often reaches pleasant Kraftwerk heights. Camera's 'Phantom of Liberty' stands testament to an inbetween gurgle of trippy patterns formed by music played on snares whilst clashing with waves of percussionist music. Rather indifferent to one sound in particular, the tracks on 'Phantom of Liberty' tend to go on and on, tiptoeing through fields full of electronicwaves, as stern rhythms make sure one's ears keep in line. Brainwashing machine krautrock is perhaps the best term to coin when describing it. To my overall delight, 'Phantom of Liberty' broadened my mind.
