intro
Our first ever non-musical Website of the Month, while our regular writer of this column Fiona Hutchings recovers from a brain haemorrhage, is dedicated to Headway, the website for Britain’s major brain injuries charity
On February 21st our writer Fiona Hutchings underwent an emergency operation after suffering a brain haemorrhage. Fiona, who is in her early thirties and the mother of two children under five, is perhaps not the most obvious person to suffer a haemorrhage. Brain injuries are not, however, just confined to the old or infirm, and can afflict anyone at any stage in their life. Fiona has run the Website of the Month column for the last eighteen months. While she is recuperating well and is expected to make a full recovery, in her enforced absence we are, in what is our first and perhaps only ever non-musical WOTM, dedicating it with Fiona’s approval to Headway www.headway.org.uk, the website for Britain’s major brain injuries charity. The Headway website provides information on the different types of brain injury and their effects, factsheets and help pages for family members, as well as legal advice, local information and how to make donations or otherwise get involved. Since she has taken over the column, Fiona has frequently impressed us with her ability to go the full distance when it comes to searching out a good fact, and the Headway website is packed full of them. Did you know that the brains have the texture of blancmange, and the average brain weights just under 3 Ibs? Or that the brain is made up of 100 billion nerve cells, and has attached to these even more billions of support cells? Love to Fiona from all of us at Pennyblackmusic.
