intro
Firm return to form on vinyl only single and first release since 2006 from Bristol-based cult art rockers the Blue Aeroplanes, which precedes an album that will come out next year
For music fans of a certain vintage, news that Bristol’s the Blue Aeroplanes were working on a new album, got those who can remember them all rather excited. It was, after all the first hint of activity from the band since 2006. At their height in the early-90s The Blue Aeroplanes, fronted by Gerard Langley, hit their stride with the likes of ‘Swagger’ and ‘Beatsongs’ mixing up cult art-rock poses with infectious pop melodies. The sort of band REM always wanted to be, if they ever bothered to drop the pretentious, but meaningless, bombast. ‘China Brilliance Automotive’ marks a firm return to form, it bounces along with glee and a sense of mischievousness showing an endless list of young guns just how it should be done. And manages to rhyme "paradigm" with "bass line". You can’t sniff at that sort of lyrical pay off. Roll on the new album next year.
