intro
Infectious second single from her 'More Than Dawn' debut album for Chatham-based bedroom electronic artist, Kah
A young upstart and musical marvel, whose artistic development has taken her from Chatham to London via Eastern Europe and Scotland, Kah has recently released new single ‘July Song’, an ode to the start of Summer which not so much blows your brains out as wriggles its way into your head, and buries in just deeply enough to ensure that the songstress is someone you’re not going to forget too quickly. Although the song begins with an opening suspiciously similar to the ‘Glee’ theme tune, it is quickly apparent that first appearances can be deceptive. Blending the instrumental ingenuity of Micachu with a strong, quirky vocal reminiscent of Bjork, and more than a hint of Sia, Kah crafts a delicate, slow burning song, yet it is perhaps one which would be more at home mid-album than as a single. This is not to say that the track does not contain moments of brilliance – it is well structured, layered with jarring soundscapes which come together to form an impressive work of bold beauty. The song may be lacking a clear sing a-long chorus, but is still a perfect slice of odd-pop for a Summer day, calling on resources as diverse as what appears to be a sitar, with the hazy mantra, “I’m moving into the Sun”, sure to be stuck in your head for some time to come. She might not be moving into the sun, but with ‘July Song’ Kah is certainly moving a step closer to breaking into stardom.
